My iPod is taking forEVer to sync with my computer (had to give the laptop back to the old job people!), so I am stuck puttering around the new digs until it’s done and I can drive to the old apartment to get the last of my stuff… I HOPE. I can’t believe how much crap I have. I am so sentimental, so I hold onto silly things like a lip gloss my grandma gave me (as devoted readers know, I miss her so so much) and journals from my teen years. I even have letters from my international penpals from my childhood, and notes from most of the college classes I took. I have managed to downsize quite a bit (tossed the lip gloss and notes from a few classes), but still, it’s downright embarasing to me. What ever happened to my idea of never owning more stuff than I could fit in a car (minus furniture)?
Anyhoo, here are a few little updates and other miscellaneous things:
* I have the greatest boyfriend in the world. Nyeah nyeah nyeah. Over the rough course of relocating home and classroom, he has proven it again and again.
* I was momentarily a terrible girlfriend four days ago when I remembered his birthday wrong. His is the 18th of a month, which I thought first, but then thought I was only thinking that because my mom’s bday is on the 18th of another month… so I wrote down the 17th… oh my. Oh. And did I mention that I wrote it wrong on a form I was filling out for a gym membership that he hadn’t really had a chance to consider… but heck. I would gladly pay his half of it.
* And to prove that I am a sentimental packrat: while sorting through five boxes (that I consolidated into only two, thankyouverymuch) I found the following: the receipt from a burrito dinner CJ and I had in 2002, a string of beads I caught at a Home Days parade we went to that same year, and a cork from a bottle of champagne he brought to my dorm room a few years later. Yeah.
* My cat rocks. She is 12 years old, and acts like a kitten. Here are some pics of her enjoying the new apartment:
As the pic on the right demonstrates, we got her one of those gigantic scratching post/cozy platform things to keep her away from furniture scratching. CJ has taken to affixing various cat toys on it in wacky places so she goes nuts trying to knock them down. I’m not sure who has whom trained.
* We got the nieces together at CJs mom’s house a few weeks ago for swimming and cupcakes. They had a blast… here’s a cute picture of them:
* I have felt like I am a bajillion degrees for the past two days. I don’t get it. It’s only about 80 degrees outside. What is wrong with me? And I’ve been lightheaded, too… maybe I am sick. Probably not.
* Saw the Simpsons Movie on opening day. Drunk. Very. I think it was good, but none of us remember for certain. Something about a spider pig and seeing Bart’s package? Was that LEGAL? Mmmmmmmmojitos…..
* I am so psyched to teach British/World lit this upcoming year. I’m grouping things thematically rather than chronologically… I’ll be starting off with utopias/dystopias ranging from Sir Thomas Moore’s original, then 1984, then Persepolis (a wonderful graphic novel about a girl coming of age during the Islamic Revolution Iran)… then onto heroes and villains (Beowulf, Arthurian Legends, mythologies of the world… any other suggestions?)… then science/technology and how it helps/hurts us… (starting with Frankenstein…) and on and on.
Ok. I can’t sit still any longer. Peace, yo.
