I love this quote. And this one. And this dish.

“The world is not respectable; it is mortal, tormented, confused, deluded forever; but it is shot through with beauty, with love, with glints of courage and laughter; and in these, the spirit blooms timidly, and struggles to the light amid the thorns.” (-George Santayana)

Yup. That sums it up pretty well. I love this quote so much I even have it hanging by the door of my classroom.

Speaking of quotes, a year or two ago I almost bought this serving platter with a Virginia Woolf quote on it:

I reallyreeallyreeeally wanted to get it because I adore Virginia Woolf and love to feed people, but I didn’t. I was even poorer then than I am now, so I was holding out for a money tree to sprout in my yard or for me to suddenly realize I was switched at birth and am really a Vanderbilt or Rockafeller. In the meantime, the Pottery Barn DISCONTINUED it! Oh, the agony!

I keep stalking (not literally, calm down!) a few ebay sellers who seem to be selling one or two of them back and forth to each other, but I refuse to buy it unless I can get it for less than $50. And that INCLUDES shipping and handling, darnit. Does anyone out there have this lying around in their kitchen and need fifty smackeroos? Hmmm? PB also made bowls and plates with the same quote on them, and  I’d be willing to buy them out of someone’s kitchen, too, if the opportunity arose… :)

No shame here.
