First Day Introductions

I am a high school English teacher. What do you envision when you hear that? Probably nothing like me.

Teachers are people, too. We spend all day working with your kids, attempting to mold them into productive members of society. But when the final bell rings, we are real people. We are flawed. This is my third year of teaching, and I am trying to find a balance between my “megan” self and my “Ms. N” self. In our culture we all struggle to separate ourselves from our work (”my work is what I do, not what I am” as my friend Chris says), but in my chosen profession it is especially difficult.

While some things I post in this blog may make me seem like anything but a traditional “good” role model, the fact that I am exploring this issue through writing proves that I definitely do live what I teach.
